At the Movies: Fast & Furious 6

Fast & Furious 6, the sixth film in the Fast and the Furious series, was released internationally today. The film stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Chris Bridges, Luke Evans, Gina Carano, and John Ortiz.

The soundtrack album for the film was released by Def Jam Recordings on May 21, 2013. It features 12 tracks by various artists and is available on CD and as a digital download from iTunes and Amazon.com. Artists appearing on the album include 2 Chainz, deadmau5, The Crystal Method and Ludacris.

The artwork for the soundtrack is a square version of the movie poster. It features the entire starring cast of the film in threatening poses.

Promises by Boxer Rebellion voted best album cover for the week of May 14, 2013

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of May 14, 2013 is Promises by Boxer Rebellion. The cover received 50% of the voted cast by our readers. One of Us Is the Killer by The Dillinger Escape Plan was a distant second with 25% of the vote. In third place is Vampire Weekend’s Modern Vampires of the City, which received 17%.

Design and layout for the winning cover is credited to Glen “Ninja” Alberstine. The cover photograph is by Jegeor. I was not able to find information about the photographer. However, there is a Flickr page under the name with the cover image and several similar examples.

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of May 7, 2013 is More Than Just A Dream by Fitz and the Tantrums. The cover received 36% of the votes cast by our readers. Mother by Natalie Maines was second with 20% of the vote. There was a rare three-way tie for third among The Great Gatsby soundtrack, Volume 3 by She & Him, and Under the Influence by Straight No Chaser.

I do not have credits for art direction and design for the winning cover to share. I have to admit it is not my favorite. I prefer the Natalie Maines cover. I think it is a bit more interesting.

Daft Punk releases unboxing video for Random Access Memories

It has been quite a long time since we have seen a recording artist release an unboxing video. The one released today on YouTube by Daft Punk is very interesting, featuring an elaborate set and lighting effects.
