My favorite song by British pop duo Eurythmics is Thorn In My Side. Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart released the single in August 1986. It is the second track on the album Revenge (right). The single reached number five on the U.K. charts and made it to 68 in the U.S.
The cover of Revenge has always bothered me because Annie Lennox’s eyes were made to look like those of a cat. Lennox has absolutely beautiful eyes and I think it was almost a crime to have altered them. They also made them them blue, when they are in reality the most amazing shade of pale green.
The cover for the single features an artistic double exposure portrait of Lennox. I have recreated it by making a composite of several examples found online.

Another story about the Revenge album cover is that the Italian digipack version was released (a couple years before the remasters), whoever touched up the artwork for the digipack removed the mole from Annie’s neck. I noticed its absence immediately.
Some versions of the original photo have it, and some do not — http://tinyurl.com/yebplnb — but it is on the album painting on most editions.
And thanks for the 12” cover. When my local record shop closed last week, I debated whether to buy that or not because it’s a neat photo, but decided against it… yet I am glad to have it as a jpg instead.
That is such a beautiful photograph. I really wish the album cover was more true to it. Thanks for the link.
I don’t think I could have passed up buying that 12”. It would make great wall art.
