Below are 10 noteworthy album covers that were posted to the AAX gallery last week. They were selected simply because I found them to be interesting or a valuable addition to the gallery. They are listed in no particular order.
Pop music duo Pet Shop Boys revealed the artwork and track list for their forthcoming album via their official website yesterday. Produced in Los Angeles earlier this year by Andrew Dawson and Pet Shop Boys, Elysium is scheduled to be released on September 18, 2012.
As for previous albums, the artwork for Elysium was designed by UK design firm Farrow. The version shown below is for the single-CD/digital download versions. The double-CD and double-vinyl versions of the album will include instrumental versions of each song (see track list below). The cover for the double-CD is shown above.
When the logo for the 2012 Olympics was revealed, many people saw “naughty” images in the abstract-looking numbers. I have seen it described as an “orgy” and “Lisa Simpson performing oral sex” (I can’t see it).
It is no surprise that the cover art for the official song of the London 2012 Olympic Games features the controversial logo. Composed by electronic music duo The Chemical Brothers, Theme for Velodome is currently available as a digital download from iTunes and Amazon.com.
Legendary rock band KISS is revealing the cover for their forthcoming album Monster through a Facebook scavenger hunt. A Facebook app called Monster Hunt allows users to visit various websites and collect pieces of the cover art.
Monster is scheduled to be released on October 16, 2012. The app can be accessed from the band’s official Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/KISS.
The album cover for the forthcoming Bat for Lashes (aka Natasha Khan) forthcoming album, The Haunted Man, was revealed yesterday. It features a nude photograph of Khan by photographer Ryan McGinley. Khan appears in the artist black and white photograph with a naked man wrapped around her shoulders.
The album is scheduled for release by Capitol Records on October 23, 2012. The first single, Laura, is currently available as a digital download from iTunes and Amazon.com.
Pop singer P!nk revealed the cover art for the cover of her forthcoming album, The Truth About Love, on her official website today. The album is scheduled to be released on September 18, 2012.
Credits for art direction and graphic design were not given with the announcement. The cover features a photograph of P!nk (looking very much like Madonna from the Material Girl’s True Blue album) and retro fonts. I am not wild about the composition. The text would probably look better on the right side of the cover.
This edition of “Editor’s Choice” features 10 album covers by AAX contributor Da Guy. Each week, Da Guy uploads amazing restorations of vintage album covers. Last week, he really outdid himself. The selections posted below are examples of the best AAX contributors have to offer. They are posted in no particular order.
A new video posted to YouTube by London electronic band Saint Etienne features fans holding their favorite 12″ LPs and singles. The selection of covers is quite eclectic. Many of my favorites are included. How about you?
Words and Music by Saint Etienne is currently available on iTunes and Amazon.com.
