Album Art Exchange album art gallery hits 250,000 mark!

Yesterday, the Album Art Exchange (AAX) gallery reached a significant milestone. AAX user plholland uploaded the 250,000th cover. The cover is for Rosanne Cash’s 1987 album King’s Record Shop (below).

Celebration Day by Led Zeppelin voted the best album cover for the week of November 20, 2012

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll, the best album cover for the week of November 20, 2012 is Celebration Day by Led Zeppelin. The cover received 53% of the votes cast by our readers. Unapologetic by Rihanna was second with 23%. Live 2012 by Coldplay was third with 13%.

The design and art direction for the winning cover is credited to pop artist and graphic designer Shepard Fairey. Fairey became famous for his “Hope” poster of Barack Obama and has designed many notable album covers over the past few years. He has created covers for Black Eyed Peas, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots and others. He also created the cover for Led Zeppelin’s 2007 album, Mothership.

King Animal by Soundgarden voted best album cover for the week of November 13, 2012

According to our AlbumArtExchange Blog poll the best album cover for the week of November 13, 2012 is King Animal by Soundgarden. The cover received 44% of the votes cast by our readers. Christina Aguilera’s Lotus and Grrr! by The Rolling Stones tied for second place with 22% each.

The winning cover features photography and sculpture by Josh Graham. You can view other examples of Graham’s unique artwork on his website, Suspended In Light, at suspendedinlight.com. Graham also directed and edited the music video for Soundgarden’s Been Away Too Long.
